Okay, I know fragrance is a personal preference. This shampoo and the conditioner and hair treatment mask have done wonderful things for my damaged hair. However, I hate the smell. It has a very heavy fragrance that I can only describe as being like incense or myrhh. Very overpowering and gives me a headache. I prefer my hair products to have light, clean, fresh scents that won’t interfere with my perfume and won’t give me a headache. Thus, only 4 stars. I wish the people at Fekkai would consider changing the fragrance for this product line to something less intrusive.

About 8 months ago I decided to do something drastic and highlight my dark brown/black Asian hair to get those “J-LO” caramel blonde streaks. After several attempts, I wished I never did it; because my hair ended up fried beyond repair. I tried so many different treatments to get the luster back but nothing seemed to work. I thought my only hope was to shave my head and start over. Then about a month ago I discovered Fekkai’s Protein RX shampoo and conditioner. WOW what a differnce! Before using the Protein RX system, I dreaded shampooing because my hair would just get knotted up into a DRY, OVERPROCESSED, CLUMP, of YUCK! Now my hair feels soft and silky and looks amazingly shiney – no gloss needed! Thanks so much! Money well worth every penny if you value your locks! I wash and condition my hair with the Protein RX shampoo and conditioner. After towel drying, I add just a dime sized amount of the conditioner to my shoulder length hair as a leave-in. Whala! GREAT HAIR!!!

While it is a little pricey, this conditioner is worth the price. My hair is overprocessed since I regularly get blonde highlights in my naturally straight, dirty-blonde hair. After years of coloring, my once smooth hair has gotten brittle, breaks easily, and has frizzy split ends. This conditioner works wonders without making my hair feel greasy or weighed down. I was really surprised how soft and manageable my hair is. Whatsmore, I still had plenty of volume after blowdrying. Plus, I worked a little more conditioner in my dry-splint ends (without rinsing) before blow drying. Love it, gunna buy it again.

I purchased this conditioner after having used the Fekkai color-treated (the pink one) version thinking it would be even better for my high-lighted and damaged hair. While it is still a fantastic conditioner compared to most on the market, I really thought that the pink one did a better job. Both leave my hair smooth and relatively healthy, but my hair is honestly gorgeous after using the pink Fekkai conditioner–shiny, bouncy, like I never colored it. Maybe this one is a little too heavy for my hair? I haven’t quite figured out the difference.
As previous posters have noted, this does have a rather strong smell–sort of a floral, almond fragrance–which is a little stronger than most hair products. I didn’t find it particually off-putting, but I do prefer the clean, simple fragrance of the pink Fekkai conditioner.
All in all, a great product, but I’ll go back to my original Fekkai conditioner when this one runs out. I never thought I would say this about a $20 tiny bottle of conditioner, but it’s totally worth the $$.(For comparison purposes, I have medium-length, straight, dirty blonde hair with highlights).

I have searched the ends of the earth for the perfect product, especially after pre-menopause has set in. I am one of those lucky women that has experienced hair loss and loss of life due to “change of life” hormones. I have tried many products from consumer to salon grade.
1. Pantene 7. Biolage
2. Head and Shoulders 8. Redkin
3. Suave 9. V-05
4. Aussie 10. Frutose
5. Bed Head 11. White rain
6. Chi 12. Johnson & Johnson Baby shampoo
These are just to name a few of the many that I have tried throughout the years. I have chose the products due to some being reparative, lightweight, vitamin boosted etc. I will say Pantene helped with repair and shine only due to amount of wax in the product, Chi helped with shine, Suave with fragrance, Frutose with strength, but non of these products offered everything I wanted and needed. Repair, bounce, life, shine, weightlessness, and no static.
After hundreds of dollars spent I thought maybe my hair issue was a lack of vitamins. Therefore, I began a prenatal vitamin as the doctor recommended for healthy nails and hair. I noticed a difference on the vitamin only with faster growth and nothing more. So back to the drawing board..I began research on hair follicles and what external vitamins hair needed to thrive at it’s best.
Upon my search I found out hair needs a large amount of protein. Each website I panned through named a few hair care items, but after at least fifteen- twenty pages one item stayed consistent. The product was Fredric Fekki Protein RX Reparative Shampoo. I began looking into the ingredients listed in this particular shampoo and it all matched herbal/scientific recommendation for hair. I read all the reviews good and bad and overall the main complaint was the aroma of the shampoo/conditioner. Wow to me this is no concern over healthy lively hair. I find my self topping off my hair with my perfume of the day anyway.
I began searching out the best price and all seemed to be the same on each site for a 16oz bottle $35. I live in a rural area so I shop the internet a lot to know each website offers a coupon. So I chose a beauty website and found a coupon for $10 off any product on their site as well as free shipping. I figured I would give this product a try and hold off on climbing the mountains in China searching for that rare flower that is a miracle on hair.
I ordered both shampoo and conditioner and it arrived well packed and within 2-3 days. In the shower I let the shampoo sit on my hair 2 minutes so it had time to penetrate through any old waxy product prior. I also did the same thing with the conditioner..although instead of applying to just the ends of my hair I apply all throughout. in the past I could never apply conditioner to the roots of my hair because thin hair will weight down drastically. But with this product I jumped in head first and applied everywhere to see if it lived up to its reviews.
One word “FINALLY” I have found the right shampoo/conditioner. The first thing I noticed while washing it the fact it was like silk and the hair did not ridiculously lather and stiffen nor tangle. After rinsing the shampoo out I could tell there was no weigh down, also there was a feeling I never had before and the only word I can think of it “CLEAN” and you will know what I mean when you try it. The conditioner was the same way, silky.
I towel dried hair and no squeaking, tangling, or matting thin hair can do when wet. When I started to blow dry the first thing I noticed was the shine, the shine you see on the model in the Frutose commercial, a shine Ive never had ever..I actually had a halo from the light in the bathroom.. SHINE!! The conditioner even when applied to the roots did not weigh down any hair…The bounce is wonderful..My hair is usually weighted down by the wax in other shampoos to the point it does not move with me or swing in the back when I walk..Now it does
My hair is smiling and alive..I am not disappointed in the least..after many many trail and error I have found my new best friend.
As far as the aroma it is a light almond/vanilla oil smell. I enjoy it and it is not overpowering to be exact..For me this is not an issue..most men like a vanilla or sweet smell anyway. The health of my hair is more important
Complaining about the smell is silly. The flower smell in other shampoos is usually a prefabricated chemical base and not truly flower extract. Added chemicals of a non natural base can hurt your hair anyway..
I recommend this shampoo/conditioner to any all, especially those with my noted hair type above
