I have always been a fan of Christian Dior eyeshadows because of the pigment, texture, wearability, blendability, and staying power. I am a freelance makeup artist, and I needed to buy blue eyeshadow for a wedding that I was doing makeup for the bride and the bridesmaids, so I looked to Dior.
Dior had several different options for blue, but I chose this particular palette because there are two blues: one vivid amost teal color, and one lighter, more muted. I also liked the other shades in this palette as they are very complimentary: light sparkly silver, sparkly white, and light sparkly lavender.
So I set forth testing out different combinations on myself first. I have dark brown hair and eyes and a medium complexion. Every combination I tried on myself looked fabulous. So next I tried them on my best friend who has blonde hair, hazel eyes, and a fair complexion. They looked great on her as well, though I had to lighten the application because of her coloring.
So I went to the wedding and did makeup on the bride and her five attendants with this Dior palette, and the results were smashing, I must say. The attendants had varied hair, skin, and eye colors, and I did each application suited to match her individual coloring, and let me tell you, the eyes had it! I think the lips were jealous. The bride wanted the eyes to stand out, and they did.
If you are afraid of blue eyeshadow like so many people are, do not be afraid. If you have always wanted to try it but too afraid, there is no better time than now, especially with it being summer. Use a good eyeshadow that is easy to work with and has a color you are comfortable with, and practice at home. I suggest this Dior palette because there are so many options. I still use mine and am still very happy with it. You can create a lot of different looks with this one palette, so experiment away! You can always wash it off if you don’t like it. You can use the silver, lavender, and pale blue in any combination for a day look, a light summer or vacation look, or even for the office. You can use the more vivid teal color with any of the other colors for an evening look, for a hot date, or just for fun. Makeup is meant to make you feel good, so have fun with it!
The price is a little steep, but if you can swing it, it actually is a great deal because you’re getting five complimentary colors in one easy to use compact with a handy good sized mirror and a velvet-like pouch to protect the compact, which is great for your makeup bag. It also comes with two dual tipped applicators on either side of the eyeshadows, and I strongly recommend not ever using those in this or any other eyeshadow, but instead to buy a good eyeshadow brush and use that. You will find it much easier to use, the color goes on better, and makes it easier to blend.
The palette lasts a long time too, I’ve had mine for over a year, and it’s still going strong, so that is an added value.
